OpenJDK Forum: Core Libraries Round Table
Last Thursday I hosted the first OpenJDK core libraries round table session, initiated by Alan Bateman to bring the core libraries developers together to discuss what everyone is working on for about an hour. As usual, it turned out to be good fun to listen to :
The Ogg Vorbis recording is available (and works great with VLC), as is an MP3 version.
I hope we'll record another round table in two to three weeks, mid way through JDK 7 M3. Meanwhile, I'll go and ask other JDK projects if they'd like to do something similar. The question is - which ones do people want to know more about? Please add suggestions in the comments.
Last Thursday I hosted the first OpenJDK core libraries round table session, initiated by Alan Bateman to bring the core libraries developers together to discuss what everyone is working on for about an hour. As usual, it turned out to be good fun to listen to :
- Alan give an update on the work being done on the next generation of NIO (most of which has recently been merged into JDK 7)
- Chris Hegarty on ongoing SCTP work (scheduled for integration into JDK 7 b56)
- Vincent Ryan on Elliptic Curve Cryptography
- Michael McMahon on the challenges of spawning processes across operating systems, and the need for API to make closing a URLClassLoader possible
- Xueming (Sherman) Shen on performance and maintenance updates for charsets and the JAR tool
- Ulf Zibis on initiating the process to bring over his enhanced Java NIO charset de-/encoders into OpenJDK
- Doug Lea on the ongoing work on improving concurrency features in the JVMs and the core libraries, and providing useful APIs and tools around it through JSR 166y
- Josh Bloch on bringing over timsort from Python for the JDK
- Mark Reinhold on the milestone air traffic control for JDK 7
- Andrew Haley on pushing the changes from IcedTea into OpenJDK
